Chapter 10. Independence under commercial pressure

Source note

Source basis - S3, physical PDF page 9.

HCDI platform rule (Units 3.3, 3.9 and 3.12); general professional knowledge. A Firm that delivers an assessment may also sell remediation. The Lead must answer truthfully whether the Firm offers remediation services to this client. The answer is printed in the report, and issuance is refused until it is disclosed. Name a function, not a person, on an action, and never name your own Firm's service line. A Firm recorded as the implementer of remediation may not deliver the reassessment of the findings it addressed. Commercial pressure rarely announces itself. It arrives as "the client would like the wording softened" or "your team could fix this next quarter". A Lead who has met this once is better prepared for the next time. That is the point of the Committee's basis for supervised practice.

Red Flag. An assessed company offering follow-on work to the Firm during the assessment.

Commercial incentives affect wording

Basis - general professional knowledge and editorial explanation. External references are identified explicitly; this section adds no HCDI rule.

An assessor selling remediation can have an incentive to describe a need in terms of its own services. Disclosure and separation of later reassessment address different risks. A general professional explanation cannot authorise an action, approval or service arrangement outside the source rules.

Original exercise L3 E10

Basis - original fictional exercise. The organisation, events and any numbers are invented for learning. No HCDI result is assigned.

A partner asks that an action name the firm's transformation service line, promising a discount on implementation.
